What is a Cenote?

A trip to the Quintana Roo is not complete without visiting the world-renowned cenotes of the area. These ancient limestone sinkholes — many of which were formed over 60 million years ago — provide an unforgettable experience, whether you choose to dive into the fresh, crystal blue waters within or simply enjoy the view. While the majority of the Yucatan’s 6000 cenotes are hidden beneath the earth, there are many that remain accessible and ready to explore.

Ruins

Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula are rich with ancient culture and boast some of the world’s most impressive ruins. The Yucatan jungles are home to the remains of ancient Mayan cities that provide an authentic view into the history of Mexico and the Mayan people.

With countless ancient sites to visit, including the well-known Chichen Itza and the nearby Tulum Archaeological zone, it’s almost impossible not to envision the splendour of the civilization that once flourished in the area. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience an important piece of Mexican — and human — history during your visit to Tulum and the Yucatan Peninsula.

Experience the beauty of the Yucatan Peninsula and its unforgettable environment, history, and culture through one of our recommended half- and full-day trips.
